Today, Mrs.King gave the class a "lesson" on interviews for our graduation projects. It was a short day becasue we had advisary, but I worked a bit on my collage and note-taking.

Graduation Project Proposal

What will your project be?
- I am the student curator for the City High Art Show. I help out with everything involved with the show. I approve poems, look at art, decide on appetizers, recruit people who want to help, get people to be a part of the show, help set up, help people practice and things of that sort. So, I’m student curator this year, but next year I would like to have my own “Poetry Slam” where local artists/kids all come together and share their poems/lyrics.
Why are you doing this project? /What do you hope to accomplish? /Who will benefit from your project?
- I chose to take the position as student curator, because I love being involved in the arts. I always want to go to art shows and poetry sessions, but as student curator I get to contribute and to the arts. In 2006, I was chosen to go to Las Vegas to compete in the Society of Poets annual competion. It was such a wonderful experience. There were at least 5 thousand poets there from all around the world, not including their families and friends. It was a challenging competition, and I ended up winning the young poets scholarship and a few other things. It made me feel good that out of thousands of people, I stood out. I didn’t realize how talented I was when it came to poetry then, and I’m sure that if I have a small poetry slam I’ll help young aspiring artist see that in themselves as well. It will inspire them to write more and try to do more things with their work. Young poets and lovers of poetry will be brought together in a peaceful & creative manner. I also want everyone to understand that we all have talent and you can do beautiful things with it when you use it.
- I was also thinking about having the guests pay only $1 to get into the show. The money will go towards an excellent cause, probably something for City High. I think $1 really good because it’s a little bit of money and plus refreshments will be there along with a great show.
What will your grad project look like in the end/what will you show the panel?
- I’m going to explain what inspired me to be student curator at the City High Art Show and what inspired me to have my poetry slam. There will be pictures of me as student curator, and pictures & videos of my poetry slam and maybe snippets of performers at my show.

Today's Tasks:
- Continue researching for my paper- Work on webliographies
City High Art Show:
- I talked to Geiger and Moye about the poetry that'll be done at the show. I read the pieces and edited them. I want to see if it's possible to have a meeting with the students who wrote pieces (maybe i can discuss their poems witht them at the practice).- I also met with Mrs.Anderson after school and discussed the food/drinks that will be served at the show, as well as other things that needed to be done: See about donations, Is there a gallery crawl night?, the arrangement of the gallery/set up........
I'm off to an excellent start and I'm caught up with all of my work!

Today's Tasks
- Continue finding articles relevant to my topic, taking notes on them and making my webliographies.
- Continue contacting/talking to teachers involved in the City High Art Show and asking them what I can do to help them prepare (or even help at the show). So far I've spoken with:
- Ms.Geiger (poetry performances)
- Mr.Duty (The media)
- Mrs.Moye
- Meet with Montera to make sure she's filled in on everything. I told her that I would talk with her today. Maybe we can talk about the things that we think we could work with and the things that we would be interesting in doing.
- Today, Ill try to look for student that may be interested in presenting some of their pieces/artwork in the show.

10 KEY TERMS
POETRY-
The word poetry comes from a greek word poesis, which means “making” or “creating”. Poetry is a form of writing that uses rhythm and other patterns of sound. It uses many ways that words can be formed together to make a meaning. There are many different styles of poetry, but the way a poem is structured depends on the writer.
FREE VERSE POETRY-
Poetry that has no rules of rhyme or meter. It can be rhymed or unrhymed and written any way, but it still has to be recognizable as a poem.
PROSE-
Ordinary speech and writing.
CADENCE-
The persistent rhythmical pattern in lines of a verse.
DICTION-
The choice of words, phrases, sentence structures, and figurative language in a piece of writing. Also, the method or style of verbal expression (clarity and accuracy).
RHYME SCHEME-
A pattern that is recognized by it’s steady arrangement of rhymes in a poem.
RHYTHM-
The pattern of “recurrent accents” in the flow of a poem and the rise and fall of stress in a poem.
* The measure of rhythmic quantity is the meter.
RHETORIC-
When someone speaks or writes, while being able to demonstrate a great skill in their use of language.
ALLITERATION-
When there is a repetition of the beginning letter/sound of words in the same line. Some people call alliteration “head rhyme” or “initial rhyme”.
Ex: I dream of Josh, and drew is jealous.

Ex: Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.

Today, I focused more on my 'Expert' topic of study. I know what my action plan is {pretty sure about it}, and I talked about it with Mrs.King. I know that I want my topic of study to deal with poetry, but that's a very broad subject, so I have to narrow it down. I've been doing reasearch on the history of poetry, the different types/styles of poetry and a lot of other things.

Today's entry: What will you write your research paper about? What area of your topic will you become 'expert' in?
Today, I talked to Ms. King and we figured out what my paper and action plan could be. She thought that It would be an excellent idea if I was a student curator for the City High Future Tenant Gallery Show. This is a good idea because I love poetry, and there will be many arts at the show. I might even be able to do one of my pieces of poetry myself. Now, I have to get in contact with Ms.Moye, Mr.Sable, Mr.Kapp or Mr.Duty. So far I'm really into this idea.

Today in class, we made our link lists to add to our pages. The links were blogs from trimester 1, trimester 2, and trimester 3. We had two work options:
Option A: If you have several ideas for your written report (Lit Review), do some background reading. Start considering the focus of your research. It should not be too broad or too narrow.
Option B: If you're not yet sure about your project, maybe another inventory would help. Answer the questions in the Interest Inventory (pp. 11-13) Number and label the Categories and try to come up with 1-2 answers for each.
I chose to to option A, and choose to consider the focus of my research. Since I'm dong poetry, that's what I think I should research. I'm guessing maybe the history of poetry, poetry in Pittsburgh, the many styles & forms of poetry, and maybe even our past & current Poet Laureate of Pittsburgh.
